Happy Tuesday! Today’s newsletter is going to be all about working girl essentials!
As you know, I’m still looking for an internship or a job, but I already have a huge list of things I need to buy when I actually start working.
Clothes/Shoes/Bags:
This is the most fundamental part of my list. If it’s true that I have a lot of good shirts (perfect to wear for work), the same cannot be said about pants and shoes.
As I told you in another newsletter, I really need to invest in good pants, namely suit pants and a good pair of jeans (or two). Zara has great options for suit pants and jeans - they are affordable and they seem to be of good quality - but I need to go to a store and try them out, because seeing them online is not the same as seeing them in person.
In last week’s newsletter, I showed you some examples of what I would like to buy (If you haven’t read it yet, go check it out)!
As for shoes, I have the exact same problem. I only wear sneakers (and boots on fall and winter), but I don’t own any “work shoes”, namely loafers.
Of course, this is just my opinion and the fact that I want to invest in good pieces (both pants and shoes) comes from the need to present ourselves in a certain way when we work in a company. I don’t know where I’ll end up working, but I know that the way we dress influences the way we are perceived.
The bag is the only thing I won’t invest in because I got a Longchamp Le Pliage bag last Christmas and, in my opinion, it’s the best work/school bag you can have! It fits everything inside and is super resistant, as well as looking good with all outfits. I have the black one, so it’s pretty versatile!
(by the way, my main inspiration for office outfits is Carmen Montero Mundt (that’s her in the pictures), I absolutely love all her outfits and her style! <3)
Stationery:
I think it is essential to have a good agenda or notebook where you can write important dates and things that you’ll learn on the job (specially if you’re an intern). I still didn’t find one that is affordable and also cute, so if you have suggestions, leave them in the comments to let me know!
Self-care:
This might sound silly, but when I went to school I always carried a moisturizing hand cream and a lip balm with me and applied them several times a day. And the truth is that my hands have never been as hydrated as when I was in college, so I want to do the same when I start working! I would love to try the L’Occitane hand cream, because I heard so many good things about it, but I think it’s a little expensive for a hand cream.
Another thing that I always need to have with me is my reading glasses. It’s really hard for me to be on the computer or my phone or reading without them on, so this is really an essential for me!
On another note, I still don’t know if I’m moving out of my house to live in another city for work, because if I move I know that I’ll be needing another essentials (living alone essentials) and these alone can make an entire post!
So stay tuned for future posts about working life and working routines (hopefully very soon)!
Now it’s time to go over what I’ve been doing, listening, reading, eating, wanting and watching!
Doing: I’ve been getting some much needed rest and I’ve been reading. Like I said last week, I’m also still applying for jobs and internships!
Listening: this week, I discovered Iris Wellen on Instagram and I started following her on her Youtube channel and podcast (“The Twenties Guide”) right away! So far, I’m loving all her content!
Reading: I finally got out of my reading slump and yesterday I started reading “Icebreaker”, by Hannah Grace and, so far, I’m liking it! Like I said last week, I’m also reading the Sheer Luxe newsletter daily!
Eating: I told you last week that I was going to a nutritionist. I went and I really liked her, so now I’m following the meal plan that she gave me, so I’ve been eating a lot of vegetables and drinking lots of water!
Wanting: I love quilted jackets and I’ve been wanting one for a long time. By coincidence, today’s Sheer Luxe newsletter has an article named “The Round Up: Quilted Jackets” and I found the perfect (yet pretty expensive) one from Ganni. It’s so cute! <3
Watching: like I said on the listening part, I started following Iris Wellen on Youtube, so now I’m watching her vlogs and so far so good!
That’s all for today, I hope you liked it!
See you next week,
Lottie
